Michelle Wie arrives at the Sybase Match Play Championship ranked 8th in the world in the Rolex rankings. On the other hand, she is coming off a tough week in Mobile, Ala. at the Bell Micro LPGA Classic where she finished 73rd (5+). “It was a pretty disappointing week for me last week but I learned from my mistakes. I’m working toward a good week this week”.
Wie played at Hamilton Farm Golf Club in 2006 in a previous match-play event as a sponsor exemption where she made the quarterfinals. Today she expressed that she was excited to return to the course. “It’s a really great golf course. I’m really glad we got back here and get to play in the match-play again…It’s in great condition and it’s a true championship golf course. They host us really well here and it’s nice to come back.”
She also mentioned how she looked forward to the event’s match-play setup and to take a break from stroke play. “It’s kind of nice to change it up a bit. I remember I played a lot more match play in amateur events in USGA golf. It’s nice to switch it up.” Wie drew LPGA Tour professional Stacy Prammanasudh in a random draw as her first round opponent and is set to tee off at 1:08 on Thursday.
